Tribble Mill 6 Hour Race
August 28, 2010
This past weekend in Georgia, Namrita O’Dea took on the 6 hour version of the 6/12 hour race at Tribble Mill Park. This race is part of the Chain Buster Endurance Mountain Bike Race Series of 5 events in the Southeast USA.
Namrita primarily took this on as a later season “fun” event while Eddie played the role of support for the day. Namrita started out as the first place overall female out of the 6 and 12 hour event and maintained her lead for the duration of the race. She would go on to be the only solo female to finish with 7 laps in the 6 hour race placing her 1st out of the women and 7th out of the Expert men.
“I haven’t done a solo lap race in quite a while so it was a different mindset for the entire race. I think I prefer the team format (Duo, with Eddie) or the point-to-point races. However, Chain Buster Racing put on a fantastic event so I am really glad I raced. Also, racing with the new Continental X King tires made my day!”

The Breck-Epic Stage Race is in its 2nd year and is quickly becoming known as the hardest stage race on the planet. With 6 stages, 250 miles, and 42,000 ft of climbing, the Breck-Epic is a solid test of fitness and equipment. Unlike other stage races, the Breck-Epic starts and finishes each day in Breckenridge, CO.
For 2010, Sonya Looney and Jeff Kerkove teamed up in the Coed Duo class. Competing against 6 other coed teams, Sonya and Jeff set off on a stiff pace and took 1st place on Stage 1. Continueing their consistent pace for the remainder of the week, Sonya and Jeff would go on to win all 6 stages of the Breck-Epic, and take the overall win against the other charging coed teams.
“Racing with a partner was new to me, but Sonya and I have done a lot of training rides together so we ‘clicked’ very well in this format of racing”, stated Jeff post race. “ We were also lucky to have great sponsor equipment as we made it through the entire week with no flat tires or other mechanical issues.”
Sonya following the race was excited with the team’s results…..”The Breck Epic was an adventure, and it was great to take it on with a great teammate. Taking the win of a 6-day event felt more rewarding than a one-day event because I knew how much we put into it, all the pedal strokes. I loved all the stages and I can’t wait to race another stage race!”

The Breck-Epic might be the hot new stage race after this year. With an international field tackling the thin air and ripping singletrack of Breckenridge, CO…..word is traveling fast across the World how great this event is….and will become. Stage 6 took riders on a 32 mile loop. By far the easiest course of the week, racers still had to work hard to complete the stage after 5 days of racing prior. Here is the video of the loop as recorded by Team Topeak-Ergon:
What a great week for all the racers! A huge shout out to Sonya and Jeff of Team Topeak-Ergon for taking the overall win in the ‘coed duo’ race!
Overall ‘coed duo’ podium!
I think we can comfortably say that Stage 5 of the Breck -pic Stage Race is the 1 single stage the identifies this event. EPIC! Big views, loose terrain, alpine tundra…..and mountain goats? Well, no goats, but this stage is what mtbing is all about! And, on top of it, the coed duo team of Team Topeak-Ergon took another stage win!
What an awesome day on the bike! The race started under cool and clear skies from downtown Breckenridge. But by time racers crossed the Continental Divide for the first time, the clouds moved in and produced a little light rain. The low hanging clouds made for a spectacular backdrop for a race venue! Here is the Stage 3 video from the Coed Duo winners, Sonya Looney and Jeff Kerkove of Team Topeak-Ergon.
