Congrats to Ergon athlete, Evan Plews, for taking home yet another win in this early 2010 season. Evan piloted the GX1’s to a win in the solo male category at the 12 Hours of Santos this past weekend in Florida.

Team Topeak-Ergon USA members Eddie and Namrita O’Dea had another chance to test their early season fitness in the 2 Person Open category at the 12 hours of Santos race in Florida. Typically, Eddie and Namrita choose to race in the solo category but this time they teamed up to race as a 2-person male/female team racing against the 2-person all male teams. The warm temperatures and technical race course was the main lure of this event and it would be used as focused early-season training.
Other than a minor mechanical issue the duo was able to maintain pace with the competing male teams. Unfortunately, the time to fix the mechanical put the O’Deas out of podium contention but they still finished in 5th place with 15 laps on the 9 mile course. Special thanks to Art North from University Bike Center, and Darren from AJ’s Bike & Boards for mechanical assistance.
Namrita said, “One of Eddie’s and my main strengths is consistent lap times and this race was no different. Eddie pulled steady fast laps and mine were on par with most of our male competitors’ lap times, as well. It was too bad to lose time due to a mechanical but that can happen in these early races. As far as early season fitness, I’m feeling pretty good.”
We just got back from a warm Minnesota. Yes, we said warm. It was 32F….and yes, that is warm for Minnesota in February. Ergon was in town for the gathering of dealers and vendors at QBP which is known as Frostbike. QBP is the largest distributor of bike shop product in the USA. Chances are anything you buy at your LBS…that is not a bike….comes from QBP. Held inside their huge earth friendly warehouse, Frostbike is 2 days of geek’n out on new 2010 product. Think of it as a quiet and mini version of Interbike. We took some video and images during the weekend. We hope you enjoy!
See you all next year!
24 Hours in the Old Pueblo
February 13-14, 2010
Tucson, Arizona, USA
Select members of Team Topeak-Ergon USA have begun their 2010 racing campaigns. Kicking off the season under the warm winter sun of Tucson, AZ, Dave Wiens, Jeff Kerkove, Yuki Saito, Sonya Looney, and guest rider Rebecca Tomaszewski of Team Niner-Ergon tested their early season fitness and equipment in the 5 Person Coed category.
Racing around the clock for 24 hours on the cactus lined course proved to be a good early season battle for the team, as they were challenged by the Ergon sponsored Stan’s NoTube team. The two teams would battle all day and all night, but the Stan’s NoTube team would prove to have the best early season fitness.
Team Topeak-Ergon USA would go on to finish in 2nd place with a total of 21 laps on the 15 mile course.
“Racing with the Stan’s team keep me motivated to push my limit for 24hours. I was trying to catch them every lap I was on the course. I wish we could win, but Stan’s team rode very strong and we did our best. It was a good race.” stated Yuki after finishing the team’s last lap of the race.
Dave Wiens chatted briefly following the race, “We were a well-oiled machine this year as far as our sequencing and riders being healthy. We stayed in the same order throughout the race, each of us getting in four laps. The sole exception was our lead-out honch, Yuki, who turned five. All that being said, the Stan’s NoTubes team, was always just a little bit ahead and a little bit faster. They rode great and earned a well-deserved victory in the 5-person coed field.”
