PUA’S SEA OTTER RECAP

Posted in RACING on April 22, 2009 by ergonusa

Pua woke up on Sunday ready for the race, excited and focused. We received a call early from one of our Kieki team rider’s father (Pual Capinas), he told us the temperature at the event was 90 and climbing and the race organizers were thinking of shortening the race due to the heat. By the time we arrived at the venue it was confirmed and while Pua love’s distance she was fine with just going for it, on what would turn out to be a very hot, short, one lap race.

The women’s race had 51 racers, not huge in numbers but stacked with some of the best racers in the US and World Cup scene. Pua soon made her way to the front of the group on the initial pavement start, trying to make sure she wasn’t caught up in any unnecessary group crash when the wheel bumping began. At the first dirt climb the leaders took off and Pua had to step off her bike when a rider in front of her made a mistake in one of the dips. This allowed many riders to pass, she found herself heading into the first single track off the front and in the mid twenties for position.
Sticking to the game and attacking on the hills, Pua made her way back into the top 10. On the final climb out her and Willow Koerber (Subaru Gary Fisher) battled and worked together to move up to what would be the final spot on the podium for Koerber with Pua chasing her only 6 seconds back.

Pua said she loved the race, felt strong and she knows what she needs to do next time to stay at the front instead of having to work her way back into contention.
Next race:
12 hours of Dirt Sweat and Gears in Fayetteville Tennessee, this is a great event and we look forward to seeing all our southern friends!

Another great reason to come to the Ergon booth and see us at events is you can be a star.  Forget American Idol.  Pffft!

Here is a short video of a few of our buddies who came to give us mad props.

TESTIMONIAL

This just in from the Ergon facebook page…

“I completed the Ouachita Challenge 60 mile race last weekend. I only had a couple hours on my new GP1 grips before the race. Of all the things that become an issue over that kind of distance my hands were not one of them. I didn’t even think about them, the grips were so comfortable. I call them “arch support for the hands”.

Thanks for the great swag at the race too. I finished 84th in the geared class, but I was delighted when I came across the line and was handed one of the cool Ergon back packs as a random winner. I can’t wait to try it out on the trail. If it is half as good as the grips I will be delighted.”
